Here are some links to stuff we think is interesting!

Best Children's Books: Find, Read or Write

This is a great page for authors and illustrators of children's books, people thinking about self-publishing, parents and anyone else interested in great books for kids!

You can read an article about how Crystal's decision to self publish her own book and her experiences led to the evolution of Gumboot Books!

Stories for Children Magazine (e-zine)

This site is a good place for authors and illustrators to get their work out there, and also for parents, teachers and kids to find free stories.  They also feature young authors each issue, and interviews with authors and illustrators.

ValuedMinds.com

This is a great web resource for parents, teachers and anyone interested in the field of children's literature.  They provide great reviews of a wide range of books, with an analysis of intellectual merit as well as enjoyment. It is a refreshing change from a focus on sales volume and publicity budgets when discussing the success of a children's book!

Just One More Book

Here's a great site with interviews with children's authors and illustrators, and lots of great book reviews.  Check it out!

Mink Chocolates

After an article appeared about Gumboot Books in the Vancouver Sun's business section, we received a package in the mail with chocolates decorated with yellow gumboots!  We thought that was super fun and would recommend checking out this Vancouver chocolate shop.

Rock and Ice

This company has all kinds of cool rock climbing activities - and kids can do it too!

Cry Poetry

This is a wonderfully moving (but yes - it's sad) book of poetry written by one of my favourite people.  It's something anyone dealing with the loss of a loved one will be able to relate to.  Not for kids, but for all you grownups and writers out there it's worth checking out.  It will remind you to go out and live your life to the fullest every day.

Charity Village

This is an amazing resource for anyone working or volunteering in the non-profit sector.
