Grinelda the Mad Hatter(Spring 2008)

Mary Jo was born in Pennsylvania and grew up on the outskirts of Pittsburgh. Her first job was delivering newspapers and then she worked shelving books at the public library where her favorite section was the children’s department. You can still find her at the library with an armload of books, but checking them out instead of putting them away.

After graduating with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Chadron State College in Nebraska, Mary Jo relocated to Illinois. She settled in the Chicago area where she lives with her husband and two daughters. She worked in computer sales and now volunteers helping hospice patients and their families. Because learning to read does not come naturally to everyone, she is training to become a certified tutor for dyslexic students.

Mary Jo wore a variety of hats while attending high school so her algebra teacher nicknamed her ‘the Mad Hatter’. Nearly twenty years later, “Grinelda the Mad Hatter” was born and will become Mary Jo’s first picture book. You never know how or when that special teacher will impact your life. Teachers, you make a difference!
